Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her maternal grandparents and mother. She suffered from an anxiety disorder based on the word association when she was a toddler. Ford became fascinated by acting during her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a few weeks, she realized it was not for her. Ford decided to apply instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won the position she wanted on her third try. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut, appearing as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Apart from her regular stage work, Tate was a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate received recognition for her comedy stand-up and has been added to her portfolio in 1996.
