Salma Hayek's biggest Hollywood breakthrough came from Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Her rise to fame thanks to Frida which was nominated for an Academy Award. Hayek's television career has included her work as the executive producer of the cult Ugly Betty series. Salma Hayek's life began on September 2nd, 1966, when she was born to her Spanish father and Lebanese mother in Coatzacoalcos. Raised in a well-to-do Catholic home, Hayek attended a convent school in Louisiana at the age of 12 and lived together with an aunt Houston, Texas, during her teens. After a brief stint at the University of Mexico City after which she walked out to pursue a career in acting. She eventually went on to become an telenovela actor in her native Mexico. First film roles in 1991, the determined Hayek relocated into Los Angeles, California, eager to enhance her English and to become an Hollywood actress. Following a few small roles her way, she was offered a part opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.
